Win a cash prize in LCPL’s Poetry Contest beginning April 1

Local writers can win cash prizes in Loudoun County Public Library’s 13th annual Poetry Contest, which runs Wednesday, April 1, through Sunday, May 17. The contest is open to teens and adults in Loudoun County and the nearby regions listed on the contest homepage.

Poems can be entered into one of three categories: Performance Poetry, Free Verse or Poems that Rhyme. Teen and adult submissions will be judged and awarded separately by age group. Entries must be original and unpublished and should be submitted via the form on the website by Sunday, May 17.

Winners will be announced Tuesday, June 23, during an awards ceremony at the Sterling Library, hosted by international poet and artist Leonor Alvin Brazão. The event will be recorded and made available on LCPL’s YouTube channel. Winning poems will also be published in a free eBook on LCPL’s Poetry Contest webpage.

“We had over 250 local poets enter last year, and even more attend our related programs,” said Jeremy
Worley, Program Coordinator for the contest. “If you know someone who may be interested, encourage them to join this community of writers!”
