Revised Concepts for Westpark Property Available Online

Following the Board of Supervisors’ endorsement of the major design elements for the Westpark Improvements project, Loudoun County is sharing revised concepts of the disc golf basket layout and enhanced landscaping, and information regarding basket noise reduction measures. Members of the public are encouraged to review the diagrams now available at loudoun.gov/WestparkProperty.

At its April 21, meeting, the Board of Supervisors amended the park design to include the following:

  • A minimum distance of 100 feet between disc golf baskets and adjacent residential properties along the course, and, where baskets are within 125 feet of residences, the addition of native plantings around the baskets.
  • Increased buffer plantings between residential properties and parking lots on Clubhouse Drive and Country Club Drive, meeting the Town of Leesburg’s most stringent zoning landscape buffer requirements.

In addition, the updated park design includes the following noise reduction features on each disc golf basket:

  • Each disc golf basket post will be filled with sand to help dampen sound and vibration generated by the post during play.
  • Padded dampening sleeves will be installed on the outside of the post between the post and chains, to reduce the noise of the chains and discs striking the post.

The design phase is nearly complete and no other revisions to the park design are anticipated at this time. Construction is expected to begin in fall 2026 with completion estimated by spring 2028.

The Westpark property will serve as a public park and natural open space resource serving residents of Leesburg and the surrounding area. The project includes environmental improvements, such as restoring the Dry Mill Branch stream channel across the property and creating about 12 acres of wetlands. These wetlands will support water quality protection, reduce flood hazards and help recharge the aquifer. These improvements align with the goal of the conservation easement to preserve the natural landscape.

More information about the project—including a link to sign up for email and text updates on the project—is available on the Loudoun County website at loudoun.gov/WestparkProperty.
