Wolff retires from the Leesburg Police Department
Master Police Officer Bruce “Bill” Wolff has retired from the Leesburg Police Department after providing more than 40 years of public service to the community.
Officer Wolff began his law enforcement career with the York City Police Department in Pennsylvania in 1982. He was then hired by the Marietta Borough Police Department in Pennsylvania in 1983. In 1986, Officer Wolff was hired by the Mount Joy Borough Police Department in Pennsylvania, where he served until 1988. On July 5, 1988, Officer Wolff was hired by the Leesburg Police Department where he has served his community since for the last 35 years.

The Town of Leesburg was a very different place when Officer Wolf started with the Leesburg Police Department in 1988. At that time, the police department had 24 sworn officers, and the 1990 US Census listed the Town of Leesburg’s population at 16,202. Leesburg Police Department is now authorized for 86 sworn police officers, and the US Census Bureau estimated the July 1, 2022 Town of Leesburg population at 48,974. As most know, it is likely that many of those residents have at one time, been stopped by Officer Wolff for a traffic violation.
During his career with the Leesburg Police Department, Officer Wolff has served in a variety of positions within the agency, including as a Field Training Officer, member of the Truck Inspection Team, liaison for the Leesburg Police Citizen Support Team, firearms instructor, speed measurement instructor, motor officer, sergeant of the Traffic Management and School Resource Officer Units, and Crash Reconstruction Team member, to name a few.
Wolff has held additional responsibilities, some of which have included serving as a child safety seat technician, a breath operator for the Intoxylizer, the tow truck company liaison, and as a Mobile Command and Communications Center (MC-3) operator. Officer Wolff also operated and oversaw the Leesburg Police Barrel Train, a favorite for many Leesburg youth over the years.

LEADERSHIP * PRIDE * DEDICATION
Over the past 35 years, Wolff has been awarded a COPS Class of 1997 Award of Recognition, a Kenny Fields Memorial “Unsung Hero” Award from Special Olympics Virginia, and a Director’s Award for Training Excellence from the Northern Virginia Criminal Justice Training Academy. He has additionally been awarded numerous Certificates of Appreciation from the Town of Leesburg, to include for beginning the Leesburg Police Motorcycle Poker Run to benefit Special Olympics Virginia and for continuing the ride for 20 years.
Over the years, the Leesburg Police Department has received numerous letters of thanks from the public, from Town employees, and from law enforcement partners for the positive interactions that they each have had with him. While Wolff was never one for issuing a warning for a traffic violation, most motorists drove away with a fond appreciation for him and his professionalism.
Fun Fact: Wolff is proud to have policed Leesburg under 7 US presidential administrations, 4 Leesburg police chiefs, 2 acting police chiefs, 5 mayors, and 5 town managers.
In retirement, Wolff looks forward to spending more time with his family.
Interim Chief Grigsby and the LPD Family, thank you for all that you have done over the past two and a half decades to better the Leesburg community.
