BOS Adopt Roadway Safety Plan as Part of Safe Streets Loudoun

During the May 5, Loudoun County Board of Supervisors meeting, the Board adopted the Local Roadway Safety Action Plan, which is part of the Safe Streets Loudoun program that was created to improve transportation safety, and reduce serious injuries and fatalities on county’s roads.

County staff identified several goals to help achieve specific benchmarks by 2040. Staff followed a structured, data-driven process to identify key safety challenges and prioritize solutions. That process included public engagement and crash data analysis.

To track the effectiveness of the Safety Action Plan the county will establish a task force, track key performance indicators including crash data, maintain the Safe Streets Loudoun webpage and crash data dashboard, and prepare an annual report. The action plan also calls for a countermeasure toolkit to guide the selection of safety improvements based on the characteristics of the area.

Loudoun County received a $464,000 Safe Streets and Road for All grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to prepare the safety action plan. The grant required a 20% match, which was $116,000.

The plan also aligns with the Virginia Department Transportation’s “Arrive Alive” Strategic Highway Safety Plan.
