Virtual update on ‘Safe Haven’ site in Loudoun on March 10

Loudoun County residents who have questions about the “safe haven” facility at The National Conference Center in Lansdowne are invited to view a Facebook Live question-and-answer session Thursday, March 10, 2022, 3 to 4 p.m. Board of Supervisors Chair Phyllis J. Randall and Ashburn District Supervisor Michael R. Turner will host the session.

The question-and-answer session will be streamed live on the Loudoun County Government page on Facebook beginning at 3 p.m., Thursday, March 10. Questions should be submitted in advance through an online form at loudoun.gov/safehaven.

The deadline to submit questions is 12 p.m., March 10. Anyone will be able to view the question-and-answer session at the time of the event; a Facebook account is not required. Video of the conversation will be posted on the county’s Facebook page following the event.

The federal government has entered into a contractual agreement with the NCC in Lansdowne to use the center as a “safe haven” to temporarily house Afghan evacuees as part of Operation Allies Welcome. The site will function as a brief stop for thousands of Afghan evacuees until they are resettled into new homes located throughout the United States. The operation is scheduled to begin during the week of March 7, and end no later than September 2022.

A detailed explanation about the “safe haven” facility, and a link to the online form to submit questions, may be found at loudoun.gov/safehaven.
