Varner is a U.S. Navy veteran, serving as Cryptologic Technician for the Navy in the 1990s.
Varner holds an associate’s degree in Information Technology with a concentration in Programming from ECPI College of Technology. He also received his Cryptologic Technician Technical training certification while in the Navy. Varner is a Certified Government Chief Information Officer.
“I am pleased to welcome Scott to the Town of Leesburg. Scott has an impressive background with extensive experience in both local government and information technology. His background will allow our IT Department to continue the great strides accomplished by our staff under the previous leadership as we look to advance our technology and cybersecurity capabilities throughout Town government,” stated Town Manager Kaj Dentler.
“Not only is Leesburg beautiful and diverse, but it has also made technology a focus area to enhance resident services. That commitment to its residents drew my attention and I am excited to work with the IT team and the Technology & Communications Commission to explore what’s next for this amazing locality,” Varner stated.
Varner’s first day with the Town will be Dec. 2.
