School Board Holds Meeting on Golden to Mars Transmission Line Proposal

The Loudoun County School Board will hold a special meeting on Monday, July 13, at 5:30 p.m. at Rock Ridge High School to continue its review of the proposed Golden to Mars transmission line project and consider issues involving potential use of School Board property for an alternative route.

The meeting comes during the School Board’s traditional July recess after the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors adopted a resolution requesting that the Board convene an emergency meeting before July 20. The request followed the Virginia State Corporation Commission’s June 29 approval of Route 3A for the transmission line project.

According to LCPS, the School Board has not made a final decision regarding any proposed transmission line routes that could affect School Board property. Board members plan to hear public comment, discuss the issue and deliberate before taking any action.

The meeting will be held at Rock Ridge High School, 43460 Loudoun Reserve Drive in Ashburn, because the School Board meeting room is unavailable during scheduled summer maintenance. LCPS also noted that the Rock Ridge school community could be affected by transmission line routes under consideration, making it an appropriate venue for the discussion.

The meeting will be livestreamed on the Loudoun County Public Schools website. However, because the meeting is being held off-site, it will not be available through the School Board’s regular broadcast channels, and virtual public comment will not be offered.

Residents who wish to speak may sign up beginning Thursday, July 9, through the LCPS website or register in person at Rock Ridge High School between 4:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. on the day of the meeting. Those unable to attend may submit comments to the School Board through Let’s Talk.
