Leesburg Movement selected for 2025-26 mobilizing Main Street Program
The Leesburg Movement, a nonprofit affiliated with Main Street America, has been chosen to participate in the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development’s 2025-26 Mobilizing Main Street Program.
This two-year program, funded by Virginia Main Street, is designed to support communities that want to achieve Advancing Virginia Main Street designation and Main Street America accreditation. It uses a cohort-based approach to provide tailored guidance and development throughout the process.
The Leesburg Movement will collaborate with DHCD staff to strengthen their community and create economic opportunities. The group will create customized work plans, meet program goals, and receive support with tasks like market analysis, design reviews, grant management, and other tools to ensure success.
“I am very pleased to see the continued progression of Leesburg’s Main Street initiative”, said Russell Seymour, Director of Economic Development for the Town of Leesburg. “With the establishment of the Leesburg Movement, their accomplishments to date, and commitment to downtown Leesburg, I look forward to their continued success.”
The Virginia Main Street Program is divided into three (3) tiers with varying degrees of requirements. This acceptance elevates the Leesburg Movement to Tier 2 status, offering specialized organizational training aimed at enhancing and strengthening the community’s downtown revitalization efforts over a two-year period. Leesburg achieved Tier 1 status in November 2021.
The Leesburg Movement will join similar organizations from Bowling Green, Front Royal, Occoquan, Portsmouth, Pulaski, Rocky Mount, Salem, Waynesboro, and Woodstock as part of the VMS program. Their work will begin with an orientation on Thursday, Jan. 23, in Staunton.
