First Lady and Santa arrive by Osprey to celebrate Toys for Tots tradition

“This Christmas season, you, your friends, and your families should wish for the ultimate gift—love. After all, love travels further than Santa’s sleigh and America’s Ospreys,” said First Lady Melania Trump during a holiday visit to Marine Corps Base Quantico.

Mrs. Trump arrived with Santa Claus aboard a V-22 Osprey—the Marine Corps’ tilt-rotor aircraft—on Dec. 8, where Marines, volunteers, and military families gathered to continue the 75-year Toys for Tots tradition of delivering toys and holiday cheer to children across the country. The event, supported by the Toy Association’s longtime partnership, remains one of the Marine Corps’ most visible community service efforts.

Opening her remarks, Mrs. Trump offered a lighthearted explanation of Santa’s arrival, telling children that the reindeer were “resting in the North Pole” under “warm, fluffy blankets” as they prepare for their Christmas Eve flight. She described Santa’s excitement aboard the Osprey, noting that he “couldn’t stop smiling” as he looked out the window at American families below.

Inside a decorated historic hangar, the First Lady turned her attention to the purpose of the gathering. She praised the Marines and volunteers who support Toys for Tots, saying they “help bring the delight of Christmas morning to millions of children,” and thanked the Toy Association for its role in promoting “fun and creativity” for families in need.

Addressing those who bear the weight of sacrifice most directly, Mrs. Trump honored the resilience of military children, telling them, “You are the heart of today’s celebration.” She acknowledged that some families have a parent deployed during the holidays, adding, “Your strength in the face of adversity is inspirational.”

Mrs. Trump also expressed gratitude to the parents and guardians who support service members, saying, “Your support and resilience empower our Marines to serve with honor and distinction.

Whether near or far, you illuminate every occasion, enriching everyone’s life.”

Throughout the event, the First Lady helped distribute toys, visited activity stations, and spent time speaking individually with children and families whose loved ones serve both at home and abroad. Her presence added a personal touch to an event that has grown into one of the country’s most recognizable holiday traditions.

Mrs. Trump concluded her visit by extending warm wishes to the military community at Quantico and beyond. She thanked families for the strength, generosity, and patriotism they bring to their communities and wished them all a Merry Christmas.
