Purcellville to hold tree workshop March 25

Purcellville’s Tree and Environment Sustainability Committee is hosting a free virtual workshop on Thursday, March 25 at 7 p.m. to share tips about how to plant trees so they thrive. The workshop will be led Jordan Herring, Senior Area Forester with the Virginia Department of Forestry.  Learn how to determine the best locations to plant trees on your property, identify the species that are most appropriate for the space you have available, and plant trees so they thrive with tips about watering, mulching, and pruning. Register for the workshop at https://signupgenius.com/go/5080e4baeac28a4fa7-howtoplant to get information about how to participate.

“Jordan is an excellent resource for us, his last presentation was incredibly informative and helpful. I encourage anyone who is preparing to plant or prune their trees to take the time to attend. You will leave better informed and equipped to help your trees thrive.” said Joel Grewe, Purcellville Town Council member and council liaison for TESC.This workshop is part of the project the Town recently received grant funding for through the Virginia Department of Forestry’s Virginia Trees for Clean Water program. Two additional workshops about trees will be held throughout the year.  As part of the project, the Town and TESC will also host tree plantings at the Suzanne R. Kane Nature Preserve to help maintain and improve the habitat, increase the number of native species in the area, and improve water quality so the preserve continues to provide the food, water, shelter, and shade necessary for native wildlife to thrive.
