Purcellville police report Sept. 24

09/18/21          10:58 p.m.       121 N Maple Ave                                Assault

The reporting party stated that he was in the drive thru-line at McDonald’s when another vehicle cut in front of him as they moved towards the pick-up window. Words were exchanged, and both drivers exited their respective vehicles.

The driver from the offending vehicle charged the reporting party and the two went to the ground and wrestled briefly until the alleged offender escaped, got back into his vehicle and drove away. The reporting party, who had a scrape on his nose and scrapes on his knees, did not desire any prosecution. 

09/19/21          10:54 a.m.       32nd Street and Rugby Court             Improper Vehicle Use

An officer stopped a vehicle for traveling 44 mph in a 25-mph zone. He discovered that the driver, who did not own the vehicle, was not licensed and the vehicle, which displayed FARM USE tags was not properly licensed or insured. The driver was cited for the violations, and the vehicle was impounded. 

09/20/21          3:09 p.m.         20th and E Street                                 Found Property

A person found a key ring at the intersection of E and 20th Streets. 09/20/21          5:36 p.m.         776 E. Main Street                             Hit and Run

At 5 p.m. the victim’s car was parked in the lot, when another vehicle backed into his car and drove away. Officers viewed security camera video of the incident and were able to obtain a license plate number. This led them to a residence in Round Hill, where the mother of a 16-year-old confirmed that her son was the driver of the striking vehicle. The video also showed him, much to his mother’s chagrin, that he was attempting to purchase items at the Tobacco Hut. She provided insurance information, which was shared with the owner of the victimized vehicle.

09/21/21          10:00 a.m.       761 E. Main Street                             Larceny from Auto                                                               

The victim reported that he parked his vehicle, with various tool boxes in the open bed of this truck, in the parking lot at approximately noon on 9-20-21. He ate lunch, and upon his return at 12:40 p.m., he noticed that the tools, valued at approximately $2500 were missing. The responding officer is awaiting access from the shopping center owner to the security camera system. The investigation is ongoing. 09/21/21          4:06 p.m.         500 Block of G Street                         Domestic Argument

Police received a call from a woman in another state, who wished to report Domestic violence that had occurred in 2020. She also indicated that the abuse and a variety of other crimes have continued in other states.

She emailed a variety of court and other documents and photos to the officers, but nothing that would demonstrate that a crime took place in Purcellville. The investigation is on hold as the investigating officer is awaiting receipts of additional information from the complainant.

09/21/21          3:08 p.m.         Town of Purcellville                           Emergency Custody Order                                                                                                              
Police were advised that a worker at a group home had been granted an Emergency Custody Order for a resident. An officer transported the subject to the hospital where he underwent both a mental and physical health evaluation. In reference to the former, he was released after a telemeeting with a mental health professional and declined to heed the doctor’s advice that he remain in the hospital for an underlying medical issue. The officer transported the subject back to his residence.

09/22/21          5:38 p.m.         17000 Block of Remington Drive    Protective Order

The Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office requested that police serve a protective order on two people residing in Purcellville. An officer responded to the residence and served the papers without incident.

09/23/21          12:09 p.m.       On-Line                                               Fraud-Grandparent Scam

The victim received a phone call from a subject, “David Miller” who claimed to be an attorney for the victim’s grandson, who according to “Miller,” was arrested for DUI, in which a pregnant woman was injured.

He asked for $9500.00 for bond and provided a routing number. The victim wired the money, and soon received another phone call, in which “Miller” told him that the woman had suffered a miscarriage and that he needed another $9500.00 to pay for her medical bills. The victim contacted his credit card company for an advance, at which time they told him that this was likely a scam. He called “Miller” back and asked him for specific information, at which point all contact was terminated.
