Purcellville police report, March 5

02/26/21           2:41 p.m.         Town of Purcellville                                         Mental Health Crisis

Officers responded to a residence for a report of a teen having a mental health crisis. Worried that the teen was going to engage in self harm, a parent obtained an emergency custody order.  The responding officer spoke with the teen and provided a transport to the hospital for medical clearance.  Upon clearance, the teen was transported to a mental health facility in Northern Virginia.

02/27/21           3:53 p.m.         100 Block of N. 16th Street                               Custody Dispute

Officers responded to a residence for a custody dispute.  The mother voluntarily allowed her child to stay with her father, even though it was her weekend to have custody.  When the father failed to take the daughter to a scheduled sporting event, the mother responded and wanted to reclaim custody for the remainder of the weekend.   When asked, the daughter requested to remain for the rest of the weekend at her father’s residence.  Officers checked on the welfare of the child and found no signs of abuse or other trouble.  The father agreed to return the child on Feb. 28.   No further police assistance was required.

02/28/21           2:47 p.m.         Town of Purcellville                                         Mental Health Crisis 

At 1:17 p.m. a teenager in the process of transitioning to a new medicine left her residence without taking any medication.  Officers were called to assist in locating the teen, who was found sometime later on Berlin Turnpike. The teen experienced a dissociative event and had no recollection of leaving her residence.  She was returned home and reunited with her mother.

03/01/21           9:04 a.m.          100 Block of S. Maple Avenue                         Check on the Welfare

Officers responded to a home in town where a homeowner reported finding on her driveway, a plastic Ziploc bag with a rock and a note with anti-Trump rhetoric. While the note contained profanity, there were no threats to do harm.  There were similar occurrences on January 5, 9 and February 5, 2021. 

03/01/21           12:04 p.m.        Town of Purcellville                             Emergency Custody Order

Staff at a group home obtained an emergency custody order for a resident.  Officers transported the subject to the hospital where he was medically cleared and given a mental health evaluation, following which he was cleared for return to his group residence with no further intervention from mental health professionals.

03/01/21           2:55 p.m.         800 Block of Candlewood Court                      Found Property

The reporting party found a backpack leaning against her mailbox. Opening the pack to find identifying information, the complainant found a zip lock baggie that contained a green leafy substance, believed to be marijuana.  The responding officer checked the area for doorbell or other cameras and collected the backpack and contents. 

03/01/21           4:37 p.m.         340 Maple Avenue                                           Found Property

A concerned resident found a canvas bag containing various toys at the bus stop across the street from LVHS.  The items were collected and taken to the Police Department. The owner may identify and claim the items at the Purcellville Police Department. We can be reached at 540-338-7422.

03/01/21           8:40 p.m.         100 Block of Kirkbridge Court            Domestic Assault 

Officers responded for a domestic dispute that was called in by one of the involved parties.  The investigating officer met with a man who reported that his estranged girlfriend struck him. The man had no visible sign of injury. He reported that the couple has been estranged and he is in the process of moving out.  Given the lack of physical evidence and corroborating testimonial evidence no warrants were obtained. The reporting party was given the option of presenting his own evidence to the magistrate but declined to exercise this option. 

03/02/21           1:56 p.m.         100 Block of N. 16th Street                               Check on the Welfare

As a follow-up to a prior arrest for a domestic assault, Child Protective Services requested that police conduct a visit at the residence to check on a child.  Police found all to be in order and reported it accordingly.  No further intervention was required.

03/03/21           3:50 p.m.         On-Line                                                           Fraud

On 03-01-21, the victim received an e-mail from “Ultra-Logistics”, replete with grammatical errors, in which it was implied that she would be arrested if she did not send $300.00 because a package from a foreign origin was missing a customs seal. Shortly thereafter, she received a call from someone with a heavy accent requesting $200.00 to resolve the issue. She used her apple pay and sent $200.00.

On 03-02-21, she received another phone call from another man purportedly from Ultra-Logistics requesting an additional $300.00. She again complied using her apple pay. She relayed the story to her grandmother, who directed her to call the police.

03/04/21           9:46 p.m.         200 Block of East Main Street                          Drunk in Public

Officers responded for a check on the welfare of a subject that appeared to be intoxicated. Upon arrival, they located a woman, exhibiting multiple signs of intoxication, sitting on the ground next to her vehicle. Officers offered a variety of social service and medical options to the woman who refused all.  As she was in such a state that she would have been unable to care for herself, she was arrested and charged with Drunk in Public.  She was transported to the Adult Detention Center, where she will be held until sober.    

Arrested was Meredith Titus, 49, of Hillsboro, Virginia
