Purcellville Police Incidents Report – May 6

04/29/22          1:35 a.m.         100 Block of N. Maple Ave.               Destruction of Property

The manager of the McDonald’s restaurant advised that upon arrival to work the front window to the restaurant was found broken and two rocks were located inside. McDonald’s video footage revealed that two individuals approached the restaurant on foot at approximately 1:35 a.m. and threw rocks, striking the front window. The two suspects fled the area on foot, north on N. Maple Ave.

04/29/22          1:28 a.m.         200 Block N. Maple Ave.                   Destruction of Property

While conducting a canvass for the Destruction of Property at the McDonald’s, officers identified another case Destruction of Property while viewing nearby video surveillance footage.  It was determined that two individuals walked through the rear lot of building located in the 200 block of N. Maple Avenue at approximately 1:28 a.m.  One of the individuals knelt down beside a parked trailer for a moment, then stood and walk in the direction of the McDonald’s.  A short time later the two individuals were seen running away from the area of the McDonald’s and toward S. 16th Street.  Officers examined the trailer and identified that one of the tires had been cut and was flat.  It is believed that these are the same suspects that destroyed the window at McDonald’s.

04/29/22          3:45 p.m.         Town of Purcellville                           Check on the Welfare

A juvenile was reported walking in the area dragging a backpack which was tied around his leg.  The witness was concerned for his welfare and phoned police. One of the officers recognized the description of the juvenile and responded to his residence.  The juvenile alleged to his parent that high school students assaulted him and tied the backpack to his leg.  Through eyewitness accounts, it was later determined that the juvenile was not assaulted, but tied the backpack around his own ankle and fabricated the assault story. The juvenile has struggled with previous behavioral issues.  The officer worked with the parent on services available to the juvenile.

04/29/22          Unknown         600 Block of E. Main Street                Destruction of Property

While officers were investigating the Destruction of Property at the McDonald’s, they identified damage to the side of the building in the area of the 600 block of E. Main Street. Unknown suspect(s) splattered the side of the building with blue paint and silly string. A nearby witness advised that the damage was viewed on April 26, so it is not believed to be related to the McDonald’s incident. 

04/29/22          11:18 a.m.       100 Block of E. Main Street               Check on the Welfare

The complainant was attempting to deliver a meal to a resident when there was no answer at the door, however the complainant believed to hear a faint cry for help.  Officers arrived and heard the same, but received no response after knocking. They were able to obtain a key for the residence and found an elderly male lying on the floor. The male was awake and breathing but had difficulty communicating.  A second resident was located in a bedroom who was uninjured, but unable to care for herself.  Both residents were underdressed, wearing only shirts and no other clothing. Officers found the residence in complete disarray, to include what was believed to be human waste on the floor.  Both residents were elderly and unable to care for themselves, or one another.  They were both in need of medical attention and were transported by EMS to the hospital. Officers worked with Adult Protective Services to provide services to the couple.

04/29/22          1:39 p.m.         125 Hirst Road (Purcellville PD)       Narcotic Violation

The parents of a juvenile located several vape pens and suspected marijuana in their daughter’s purse.  After confronting her with their findings, they drove her to the police station to discuss the matter with an officer. The officer examined the items and identified several vape pens and e-cigarettes, as well as an altered phone charge cord, used to light the vape pods.  During an interview the juvenile admitted to purchasing vape pens and e-cigarettes at a Leesburg vape shop, as well as purchasing alcoholic beverages from a local convenience store.  The officer stressed gravity of the matter was discussed with the juvenile and her family. The officer notified Leesburg PD and will further investigate the local business.   The matter will be discussed with Juvenile Intake.

04/29/22          7:10 p.m.         600 Block of E. G Street                    Destruction of Property

The complainant reported that her newly erected mailbox had been damaged.  An officer arrived to find portions of the mailbox lying in the driveway.  A canvass of the area did not turn up any leads.   However, the investigation revealed a piece of a vehicle headlight lens cover near the mailbox. The lens cover had a part number which research showed belonged to a Mazda. Later in the evening, officers located an unoccupied Mazda parked in the town parking lot, near Fireman’s Field.  The vehicle displayed front end damage to the headlight lens cover, consistent with the found piece. Officers left a message with the owner. This case is still under investigation.

04/30/22          10:24 p.m.       700 Block of E. Main Street               Larceny

The convenience store clerk reported that a male suspect, dressed in dark clothing, entered the store, obtained two cases of Twisted Tea Hard Iced Tea, and exited the store without paying for the items. The store’s video recording system was check, but identification of the suspect was unable to be made. 

04/30/22          8:18 p.m.         17000 Block of            Pickwick Drive                       Missing Person

The complainant reported that his juvenile son had not returned home from school the prior day and wanted to report him as missing. He advised officers that he had intermittent contact with his son through texting, but did not know his location.  The complainant’s doorbell camera revealed that the son was in the residence in the early morning hours of April 30 but left a short time later.  Officers attempted to contact the son by phone but received no response. Later in the day, the complainant advised officers that he made contact with his son by phone, who advised of his located.   The complainant withdrew his wish to file a report.  The case was documented for informational purposes.

05/02/22          1:16 p.m.         125 Hirst Road (Purcellville PD)     Other Police Complaint

The complainant responded to the Purcellville Police Station an advised she had a firearm that she wanted to turn over to the department for destruction.   The weapon was turned over to an officer who conducted a query to ensure the gun was not stolen.  The gun was packaged for future destruction.

05/02/22          12:30 p.m.       W&OD Trail                                      Suspicious Event

The complainant reported that on two separate occasions, she was walking along the W&OD Trail when she saw an adult male walking with two children. Because of the man’s appearance and the children’s submissive behavior, she was alarmed and concerned. Officers checked the area of the trail and the surrounding neighborhood but did not find the individuals. Officers will continue to keep a check on that area of the trail for suspicious behavior.

05/02/22          12:40 p.m.       Town of Purcellville                           Mental Health Consumer

The complainant contacted police to advise that he was having difficulty coping with several life issues.  Officers responded and talked with the complainant, who is a mental health consumer and is well known to officers.  The subject advised officers he was having difficulty dealing with some issues in his life. The subject was not a threat to himself or others. Officers spoke with the subject for some time and were able to assist him with coping with his issues. The subject felt better prior to the officer’s departure.

05/03/22          12:05 p.m.       400 Block of Dresden Court              Fraud

The complainant reported she believed that her Walmart account had been hacked because of several fraudulent charges she received.  She advised received several subscription emails requesting her to verify her email address. This prompted her to check her Walmart account where she found five orders which she had not placed. She immediately cancelled the orders and changed the passwords to her accounts. The investigation will continue.

05/04/22          11:08 a.m.       Town of Purcellville                           Check on the Welfare

The complainant received an alarming text from her friend inferring suicide. The complainant immediately tried to contact her friend, but her calls were blocked, so she contacted police.  The complainant advised police of her friend’s address and officers responded. There, they spoke with the subject’s father who advised she was recently treated for a mental health issue and a treatment plan was in place. The officers advised him of the alarming text message, however he was unaware that it was sent.  He advised that his daughter was home and did not seem to be in distress.  He consented to officers checking on her wellbeing.  She advised officers that she was having suicidal thoughts, but was not intending to harm herself.  She voluntarily agreed to go with her father to the hospital to seek additional treatment.

05/05/22          9:23 p.m.         300 Block of McDaniel Drive             Juvenile Complaint

The complainant reported that she was at her residence and her juvenile son was refusing to exit her vehicle and was having a bit of a tantrum.  This was brought upon by the fact that his cellphone privileges were suspended for lying to his mother. Additionally, the juvenile’s parents recently divorced, which is creating additional stress on the son.  The complainant allowed him to remain in the vehicle for a short time in an attempt to let him calm down.  When she returned to the vehicle, he continued to refuse to exit the car.  Officers attempted to gain a rapport with the boy and reason with him to exit the vehicle, but he became confrontational with them.  The boy’s father responded and the parent were eventually able to remove the boy from the vehicle.  Officers provided the parents with resources for assistance with the boy’s issues.
