Purcellville Officer Camp promoted to sergeant

The Purcellville Police Department has announced the promotion of Officer David A. Camp Jr. to the rank of Sergeant. He first joined the Purcellville Police Department in June of 2018, graduating from the Northern Virginia Criminal Justice Training Academy in December 2018. During his graduation ceremony, Camp was awarded the Thomas Shaw Award. This award is given to one individual, selected by the academy’s basic training instructors, who exhibits the most professionalism, dedication and leadership amongst the entire recruit class.
Camp was born in Hawaii, but spent most of his life in North Carolina, where he was a law enforcement officer for ten years, holding both the rank of Officer and Sergeant, before moving to Virginia.
It is during this time he honed his investigative and operational skills, which have been an asset to the Purcellville Police Department. Since joining the Purcellville Police Department, Camp served as a patrol officer and was awarded a Bronze Medal of Valor in 2020 for his meritorious actions.
Camp epitomizes the Department’s community policing philosophy, and is often found engaging with Purcellville residents and visitors of all ages. He is always willing to lend a hand to both community members, as well as his fellow officers. He is known for his dependability, flexibility, and proactive approach to community outreach.
The Department must always keep enough police “goodie bags” in stock when Camp is working, since he loves to routinely hand them out to children he encounters during his shifts. Camp enjoys putting a smile on the face of those he meets, and his infectious positive attitude assists him in usually accomplishing that mission.
