Loudoun Commuter Bus Service to Change April 1
Beginning April 1, Loudoun County Transit will implement changes to its commuter bus service to expand connections for commuters and offer reduced fares for seniors and people with disabilities.
The commuter bus service will relocate from the Dulles Transit Center at 23114 Pacific Boulevard in Sterling to the Loudoun Gateway Metrorail Station at 22505 Lockridge Road in Sterling.
The move provides commuters with additional transit options, including the Silver Line and local bus service, as well as free parking in the garage for evening return trips when using a SmarTrip card. Passengers paying with cash are not eligible for the free parking. The Dulles Transit Center will remain open for carpool and vanpool commuters.
Morning departures at the Loudoun Gateway Metrorail Station will use designated bus shelters. Route 484 departs from Bus Shelter B, Route 482 from Bus Shelter C, and Routes 481 and 486 from Bus Shelter D. A map of the station is available on WMATA’s website.
In Washington, D.C., afternoon commuter bus service will no longer pick up passengers at the I and 15th Street NW stop because of construction. Passengers should instead use the new locations: Routes 881, 883, 884, 885 and 886 will stop at the bus shelter at I and 14th Street NW, while Route 681 will stop mid-block on I Street NW between 13th and 14th streets. Loudoun County Transit signage will mark the new stops.
Beginning April 1, seniors age 65 and older and people with disabilities can receive a 50 percent discount on commuter bus services using SmarTrip cards. Seniors must obtain a Senior SmarTrip card at the Loudoun County Transit and Commuter Services office at 209 Gibson Street NW, Suite 100, in Leesburg.
The office is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and passengers must present identification showing proof of age. Passengers under 65 with a disability must obtain a Reduced Fare SmarTrip Photo ID Card from WMATA. Cash fares are not eligible for the discount.
The Loudoun County Board of Supervisors approved the service adjustments during the Dec. 8, 2025, Transit Summit. The new commuter bus schedule is effective April 1, and maps and schedule details are available online at loudoun.gov/buschanges.
