In recognition of National Historic Preservation Month, Loudoun Clerk of the Circuit Court Gary M. Clemens is hosting a First Friday program, Friday, May 3, 2024, focused on the preservation of Loudoun County’s historic court records. The free program will be held at the Charles Hamilton Houston Courthouse, 18 East Market St. in Leesburg, 6 – 8 p.m.

Visitors will learn how valuable court papers have been preserved for many centuries, read about historic events reflected in the documents and observe how deputy clerks who specialize in preservation continue conservation and preservation efforts today.

Visitors can observe techniques, such as a spa tank, flat filing processes, mending protocols and other methods used to preserve Loudoun history for future generations.

Court records included in this exhibition include the 1759 Plan of Leesburg, Land Tax Books, 19th-century land tax books, Revolutionary War-era records and more.
