Leesburg Police Department reinstated with accreditation
The Leesburg Police Department has been reinstated with the Virginia Law Enforcement Professional
Standards Commission accreditation. This milestone marks the department’s dedication to upholding
the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and excellence in law enforcement.
The accreditation process is a comprehensive evaluation that assesses the department’s policies, procedures, practices, and operations to ensure they meet professional standards set by VLEPSC.
After losing accreditation in December 2022, the Leesburg Police Department recalibrated its efforts, addressing the deficiencies identified during the accreditation process. The department maintained the
quality of services throughout this period and has emerged stronger and better equipped to serve the
community.
“Our reinstatement with accreditation is a testament to the resilience and dedication of every department member,” said Leesburg Police Chief Thea Pirnat. “We have implemented changes and reforms to meet and exceed the standards set by VLEPSC.”
“I could not be more proud of the hard work of the members of our Leesburg Police Department in re-
establishing accreditation,” said Mayor Kelly Burk. “Our Police Department is truly the pride of our Town, respected by our residents for their leadership and dedication. This achievement is further validation of the high standards to which the Department has always held itself.”
The department remains committed to upholding accreditation and continuously improving its operations to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents.
