LCSO debuts online crime dashboard
The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office has launched the Loudoun County Crime Dashboard. This public website displays data related to crimes against persons and property as reported to the LCSO and includes a variety of informative, easy-to-use filters to help users see detailed information for their community. The dashboard updates every night and is viewable on the LCSO website at sheriff.loudoun.gov/crimedashboard.
“This extraordinary new tool enables us to share the most current and comprehensive information about crime in Loudoun County”, said Sheriff Mike Chapman. “The Crime Dashboard puts reliable and unfiltered data in one place so the public can see what we see and make better decisions about their own safety. It will also help with crime prevention and reporting—and make Loudoun even safer.”
Loudoun County continues to have the lowest crime rate in the Washington Metropolitan/Northern Virginia area, with serious (Part 1) crime down an additional 14% so far this year.
“We use data every day to decide where and when to deploy deputies,” Chapman said. “We analyze calls for service, crash clusters, and crime patterns by time and place. We track trends by the day of the week, time of day, and location so we can prevent the next incident, not just respond to the last one. The Crime Dashboard lets the public see that picture too.”
The dashboard shows:
- Crimes against persons and property, along with individual categories of crime;
- Crimes by LCSO station area;
- Crimes by gender, age, race, ethnicity, and/or day and time;
- Crimes by victim versus suspect;
- Crimes by residents versus non-residents of Loudoun County; and
- A county map highlighting the general location and concentration of crimes
Data is shown year-to-date (2025), as well as for 2024 for comparison purposes and changes as new reports are filed and investigations are updated. Categories shown follow the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Incident-Based Reporting System standards used nationwide, which may differ from commonly used terms.
The Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments recently introduced a regional crime dashboard that tracks offenses across the region, underscoring the value of frequent updates and shared definitions. LCSO’s dashboard complements this and other public resources by providing detailed, Loudoun-specific data.
