Inova Loudoun Hospital wins national awards
Inova Loudoun Hospital again has been recognized by several national organizations for excellence in patient care, safety, quality, and nursing.
Leapfrog: “A” Grade: For the 19th consecutive time, Inova Loudoun Hospital received an “A” grade this spring from Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, a national distinction recognizing Inova’s achievements in protecting patients from errors, injuries, accidents, and infections. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades program is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospitals’ prevention of medical errors and other harms to patients. ILH is one of only 27 hospitals across the U.S. to have achieved an “A” grade every year since the program began in 2012.
Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services—Five-Star Rating: Inova Loudoun Hospital has received five-star ratings for the 2021 CMS Overall Hospital Quality Star Rating. Inova’s ratings from CMS were earned through an analysis of 48 patient-care standards during a three-year period—July 2016 through June 2019—including safety of care, re-admission rates, patient experience, effectiveness and timeliness of care, efficient use of medical imaging, and value of care. Of the 3,355 hospitals surveyed in the country, only 13 percent received the five-star rating from CMS.
American Association of Critical-Care Nurses—Silver-Level Beacon Award: The American Association of Critical-Care Nurses recently conferred a silver-level Beacon Award for Excellence on the Progressive Care Unit at Inova Loudoun Hospital. This is the fourth consecutive term that the team has earned this recognition.
The Beacon Award for Excellence recognizes unit caregivers who successfully improve patient outcomes and align practices with AACN’s six Healthy Work Environment Standards. Units that achieve this three-year, three-level award meet national criteria consistent with Magnet Recognition, the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, and the National Quality Healthcare Award.
American Nurses Credentialing Center—Magnet Status: The American Nurses Credentialing Center has designated Inova Loudoun Hospital as a Magnet hospital for the fourth consecutive term. Magnet status is considered the highest organizational honor awarded for nursing excellence. Currently, only nine percent of the approximately 6,100 hospitals in the United States have achieved Magnet status.
Inova offering virtual “Ask the Expert” on bladder cancer
As part of its free “Ask the Expert” lecture series, Inova Loudoun Hospital will host “Managing Bladder Cancer: Blue Light Cystoscopy with Cysview” on Wednesday, June 9, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. through the Zoom video platform.
Bladder cancer is the seventh most common cancer in the United States. It is most prevalent among white males over the age of 55. While the exact cause of bladder cancer is unknown, smoking, age and gender, family health history, and chronic bladder infections are all contributing risk factors.
Because bladder cancer has a strong tendency to come back once it has been diagnosed; early detection and continuous monitoring are essential. Bladder cancer is often detected via a cystoscopy, a procedure in which a small camera is inserted into the bladder.
Urologist Dr. Jennifer Young will lead the interactive virtual discussion.
To register, go to inova.org/AskTheExpert, or call 1.855.MY.INOVA (855.694.6682). Zoom log-in details will be emailed after registration.
