Boo Bennett resigned from her position as a Purcellville Town Council Member on Thursday afternoon Dec. 6. She has moved back to her hometown.
The next general election is Nov. 5, 2024 for the Town of Purcellville mayor and town council seats. There are three seats up for election, plus the mayor, and there will be a special election to fill the vacant seat of Bennett at this time as well.
Council Member Carol Luke read a letter from Bennett to the citizens of Purcellville in the council member comments section of the Dec. 12 Purcellville Town Council Meeting.
Here is what she read:
Dear Residents of Purcellville, who love, understand, and respect the charm, tradition and rural character of our town, I would like to thank you so much for placing your trust in me to serve as your representative on the Purcellville Town Council.
I have taken my job as council member very seriously, and every vote I have made has been in good faith to represent you the citizens. I have so enjoyed meeting all of you during the campaign last year as I went door to door.
I will never forget this experience.
‘Why did you move to Purcellville?’ Don’t ever forget your answer. Be prepared to defend it. Watch who is spending your money. Stand up to pushy developers. Vote against hack politicians who speak about loving small towns, but glory in growth. Say “NO!” to them all. Repeatedly.
God bless you,
Mary “Boo” Bennett
