Ashburn Village blood drive inspires HOAs across Loudoun to save lives

On Saturday, July 19, the Ashburn Village community will once again rally together to host a mobile blood drive in honor of Ashley Littman, a beloved Ashburn resident, wife, and mother and cancer survivor. Held in partnership with Inova Blood Donor Services, the event highlights the lifesaving power of neighbors helping neighbors—and how HOAs and community groups across the region can step up to do the same.

The drive will take place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Mills Recreation Center, 43895 Grottoes Drive in Ashburn Village, with the Inova bloodmobile onsite to welcome donors. Sign up to donate here.

Last year, Ashley’s story drew widespread attention to Northern Virginia’s blood shortage. Her family’s call for donors—and Ashburn Village’s immediate mobilization—turned a moment of need into a model of action. Over 70 units of blood were donated last year, highly unusual for a local community event, and a potential model for other HOAs. The successful blood drive provided critical units for cancer patients, trauma victims, and others in urgent need.

“Hosting a drive like this is one of the most meaningful ways a community can give back,” said Nicholas Lilly, MBA, B+, Senior Director, Inova Blood Donor Services. “Ashburn Village has shown what’s possible when HOAs take the lead—now we hope other neighborhoods across Loudoun will follow their example.”

The drive is open to the public and all eligible donors are encouraged to participate. Blood supplies traditionally drop in the summer, making every donation especially critical.
