Loudoun Invited to “Let Freedom Ring” During America’s 250th Anniversary Celebration
Two hundred and fifty years after the birth of the nation, Loudoun County residents will have the opportunity to take part in a historic statewide tribute marking America’s semiquincentennial.
On July 4, 1776, the bell at the historic Loudoun Courthouse rang out to announce a new era of liberty. Now, exactly 250 years later, the Loudoun County VA250 Committee is inviting residents, businesses, churches and civic organizations to help revive that spirit and make history once again.

At precisely 2:50 p.m. on July 4, 2026, Loudoun County will join communities across Virginia for the “Let Freedom Ring” ceremony. The statewide observance commemorates the 250th anniversary of American independence with the synchronized ringing of bells 13 times, symbolizing the original 13 colonies that united to form a new nation.
“Let Freedom Ring” is designed as a shared moment of reflection and celebration, connecting Virginians with the events that helped shape the United States and honoring the enduring ideals of freedom and self-government.
Churches, schools, government buildings and other locations with bells are encouraged to toll them 13 times at 2:50 p.m. Residents, civic groups and businesses are also invited to organize gatherings and participate by ringing handbells, cowbells, service bells or any bell available.
Whether gathered in town squares, at historic sites, in neighborhoods or on front porches, participants across Loudoun will join thousands of Virginians in a unified salute to the nation’s founding.
