Cannons Honor EE Reed East Coast for Generous Fireman’s Field Donation
By Valerie Cury
Before the Purcellville Cannons took the field on May 29, players, fans, and community members gathered for a special pregame ceremony celebrating a gift that will have a lasting impact on one of the town’s most treasured landmarks.
The ceremony recognized EE Reed East Coast for its generous donation of a brand-new warning track at historic Fireman’s Field, a project valued at approximately $189,000. The company provided all materials, labor, and equipment needed to replace the aging track, which had served the field for more than three decades.

Known as Virginia’s oldest baseball field and a designated historic landmark, Fireman’s Field has long been a source of pride for the community.
The new professional-style warning track replaced the deteriorating surface with a safer and more attractive design featuring a gravel base topped with brick dust. After the project received the green light, the transformation happened swiftly, with crews completing the work in an impressively short period of time.
Purcellville Cannons Board Secretary and team photographer Angela Kable Johnson led the pregame ceremony, introducing and recognizing EE Reed East Coast for its donation and helping highlight the project’s impact on Fireman’s Field.
Johnson worked alongside her daughter, Marie, who works for EE Reed East Coast, to help introduce the project to company leadership. Through conversations, planning discussions, and site visits, the proposal gained support and quickly moved forward.
The pregame ceremony also highlighted how determination and community connections can spark a project that benefits an entire town.

As the crowd applauded and the Cannons prepared for first pitch, the evening offered more than just baseball—it celebrated community spirit, teamwork, and EE Reed East Coast’s commitment to giving back to the communities it serves.
