LCSO Urges Parents to Discuss Dangerous Door-Kicking Prank
The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office is urging parents to talk with their children after receiving multiple 911 calls involving individuals kicking or forcefully pounding on front doors before running away.
While some may view the incidents as a variation of “ding-dong ditch” or the so-called “Door Kick Challenge,” deputies say the behavior can quickly escalate into a dangerous situation.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, homeowners who hear loud banging or kicking at their door—especially late at night or when the person outside is wearing a mask—have no way of knowing whether it is a prank or a genuine threat. That uncertainty, deputies said, can lead to reactions that put everyone involved at risk.
The Sheriff’s Office is reminding families that what may seem like a joke can have serious consequences. In addition to creating fear for residents, participants could face criminal charges.
Authorities are also asking residents not to confront anyone outside their home if this occurs. Instead, they encourage homeowners to call 911 and allow deputies to respond.
“Let’s stop a prank before someone gets hurt,” the Sheriff’s Office said.
