DAR Chapters Launch Blood Drive Campaign

The Ketoctin Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, in partnership with the American Red Cross, has launched a blood donation campaign as part of the nationwide commemoration of America’s 250th anniversary.

The initiative, called “250 Units for America 250,” encourages DAR chapters throughout District VIII to host community blood drives and help collect 250 units of blood in honor of the nation’s semiquincentennial.

District VIII includes 12 DAR chapters serving Fairfax, Frederick, Loudoun and Prince William counties and represents more than 1,300 members. The chapters promote the DAR mission of historic preservation, education and patriotism through community service projects.

Working with the Mary Hemmings Bell Chapter, NSDAR, the Ketoctin Chapter will host and support five blood drives in Loudoun County this summer.

“Donating blood is one of the simplest ways community members can make a direct and lifesaving impact,” said Lori Fallace, Regent of the Ketoctin Chapter. “We are honored to support the American Red Cross while commemorating America 250 through service to others.”

Blood donations are needed year-round to support trauma victims, surgical patients, cancer treatments, emergency medical care and individuals living with chronic illnesses.

The upcoming blood drives are scheduled for:

  • July 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at American Legion Post 293, 112 N. 21st St., Purcellville.
  • July 7 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Historic Douglass School, 407 E. Market St., Leesburg.
  • Aug. 13 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at St. James’ Episcopal Church, 8 Cornwall St., Leesburg.
  • Aug. 19 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Loudoun Valley Community Center, 320 W. School St., Purcellville.
  • Sept. 10 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Historic Douglass School in Leesburg.

Residents interested in donating blood may schedule an appointment through the American Red Cross or by calling 1-800-RED CROSS. Organizers hope the campaign will both help address ongoing blood shortages and provide a meaningful way for community members to participate in the America 250 celebration.
