Mayor Fraser calls special public meeting for July 27 to discuss proposed County projects

Purcellville Mayor Kwasi Fraser has called a special meeting of the Mayor and Town Council on Wednesday, July 27, at 6:30 p.m. at the Town Hall, located at 221 S. Nursery Avenue.

The purpose of the meeting is to receive citizen questions and feedback regarding the proposed Loudoun County Fields Farm Recreational Facility, the proposed Commuter Lot project, and the proposed extension of Mayfair Crown Drive.

In addition, staff will brief the community on current safety issues on Mayfair Crown Drive that exist independent of the County’s proposed recreational fields and commuter lot.

These safety issues have already been assessed by the Purcellville Department of Engineering and Public Works, and solutions have been identified, namely: relocating the school bus stop from Purcellville Rd. to Dunraven, installing pedestrian crosswalks, redesigning on-street parking, and other traffic calming measures.

County representatives will not be available to present their application or answer questions about the Fields Farm Park or Commuter Lot project.

A separate public information meeting with County representatives to discuss the proposed Fields Farm Park and Commuter Lot is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 7, at 6:30 p.m. at Town Hall.

Questions received by residents in writing or verbally in person at the July 27 meeting will be captured and forwarded to the County for response.

These public information meetings are being held prior to the public hearings for rezoning and special use approval, which will be conducted by the Purcellville Planning Commission and Town Council.

Emails to the Mayor and Town Council can be sent to PurcellvilleTC@purcellville.gov.

Why would commuters from West Virginia who access the Loudoun commuter lot in Purcellville pay the same amount to get to DC as the commuter who pays property tax in Sterling and gets on the bus in Sterling to DC ? Does the BOS really not know how to to differentiate passengers? Same question for the Greenway which is 100% in Loudoun yet pays well below its market value in property tax assessments. Is it REALLY that hard for Loudoun BOS to know how to provide discounted fares for Loudoun residents already paying for the system through property tax payments? Shouldn’t we start asking for more competence than it takes to remove a 100 year old statue or change the name of a road? VOTE NEXT TIME!
