Ruzic Reports Fundraising Lead in Commonwealth’s Attorney Race
Democratic candidate Ryan Ruzic has reported a substantial fundraising advantage over incumbent Commonwealth’s Attorney Bob Anderson, according to campaign finance reports filed with the Virginia Department of Elections.
Campaign finance disclosures released this week show that Ruzic has raised $47,674 since announcing his candidacy on May 5, compared with $10,250 reported by Anderson. According to the filings, Anderson’s reported contributions consist of loans he made to his own campaign.
The reports also show that Ruzic received contributions from 139 individual donors. According to an overview of campaign finance filings for Commonwealth’s Attorney candidates across Virginia, Ruzic has reported the highest fundraising total among candidates for the office, followed by Fairfax Commonwealth’s Attorney Steve Descano and Arlington Commonwealth’s
Attorney Parisa Dehghani-Tafti.

“I want our streets to be safe, our schools to be safe, and for the law to apply equally to everyone,” Ruzic said in a statement. “It is clear from this overwhelming groundswell of support that Loudoun wants that too.”
Ruzic, a Purcellville resident, has spent his legal career in Virginia’s criminal justice system, serving in both Commonwealth’s Attorney and Public Defender offices.
He began his career in the Arlington Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office before joining the Loudoun Public Defender’s Office. In 2021, he was appointed Virginia’s youngest Chief Public Defender.
During his legal career, Ruzic has argued cases before both the Virginia Supreme Court and the Court of Appeals of Virginia. He also serves as chair of Loudoun’s legal ethics district committee, an appointment by the Virginia State Bar, where he oversees attorney ethics complaints and disciplinary matters.
Ruzic has been endorsed by U.S. Rep. Suhas Subramanyam, Sens. Russet Perry and Kannan Srinivasan, and Delegates David Reid, Atoosa Reaser, Marty Martinez, JJ Singh, and John McAuliff.
