Sterling Community Invited to Help Students Start the School Year Strong
As the countdown to a new school year begins, the Sterling community has an opportunity to help local students head back to the classroom with confidence.
Sterling District Supervisor Koran Saines has launched his annual Back-to-School Supply Drive, encouraging residents, businesses, and community organizations to donate school supplies for students in Sterling Park.
The drive runs from July 6 through Sept. 14 and aims to ease the financial burden many families face as they prepare for a new school year. While back-to-school shopping is an annual tradition for many, the cost of supplies can be a challenge for families balancing expenses such as rent, groceries, clothing, and medical bills.
Community members are encouraged to donate new school supplies for students of all ages. Needed items include pencils, crayons, ruled paper, disinfecting wipes, and other classroom essentials.
Those who prefer to donate online can purchase supplies through the drive’s Amazon Wish List, with items shipped directly to the collection effort.
Residents wishing to drop off supplies in person may do so during regular business hours at the following locations:
- Sterling Library, 22330 S. Sterling Blvd.
- Claude Moore Recreation & Community Center, 46105 Loudoun Park Lane.
- Dulles Town Center, 21100 Dulles Town Circle, with donation bins located near the 810 Entertainment entrance, Center Court behind Starbucks, and the Macy’s entrance.
The Sterling District Office is also inviting businesses, nonprofits, and houses of worship to join the effort by hosting donation bins or organizing school supply drives within their organizations. Participating groups will receive promotional materials and be recognized for supporting the community-wide initiative.
With a backpack full of supplies and the support of neighbors, local students can begin the school year ready to learn—one pencil, notebook, and crayon at a time. Email Monica.Harrer@Loudoun.Gov for further questions.
