Loudoun Hosts Community Mental Health Panel Discussion on May 28

In observance of May as Mental Health Awareness Month, the Loudoun County Department of Mental Health, Substance Abuse and Developmental Services, in partnership with the Loudoun County Community Services Board, will host a community mental health panel discussion. This free public event will bring together local leaders and mental health professionals for a conversation about mental wellness, connection and support. Community members of all ages are encouraged to attend and participate.

The “More Good Days Together: Breaking the Silence, Building Support” event will take place on Thursday, May 28, 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Sterling Community Center, 120 Enterprise Street in Sterling. The discussion will focus on how communities can help individuals and families experience greater well-being, resilience and hope.

“Mental health is health, and it looks different for each person,” said Loudoun County Department of Mental Health, Substance Abuse and Developmental Services Director Margaret Graham. “Creating space for conversations where people can learn from each other and learn about resources that are available strengthens our community and enables meaningful support for one another.”

A panel representing diverse professional and lived perspectives will share their insights, experiences and expertise, offering attendees education, practical strategies and a deeper understanding of how people can work together to support mental health and well-being in their personal lives and across the community.

Panelists will explore topics, including the value of supportive relationships, access to resources, reducing stigma and the everyday actions that contribute to positive emotional well-being. The event will also provide an opportunity for community conversations as attendees will be encouraged to share their perspectives, ask questions and learn from one another.

The panel will be moderated by Dr. Ramia Gupta, medical director for the Department of Mental Health, Substance Abuse and Developmental Services. Featured panelists include:

  • Margaret Graham, director of the Department of Mental Health, Substance Abuse, and Developmental Services
  • Jennifer Evans, director of Loudoun County Public Schools’ Student Mental Health Services
  • Jeffon Wilson, director of housing, Loudoun Serenity House
  • Angelo Wider, Loudoun County Community Services Board

Anyone who requires an accommodation for any disability to participate or needs language assistance should call 703-771-5155 or send an email to prevention@loudoun.gov. Three business days’ notice is requested.
