Loudoun Habitat for Humanity Restore Closing

The Board of Directors for Loudoun Habitat for Humanity announced the closing of its ReStore effective Feb. 24. The ReStore, located in Leesburg, VA, is a nonprofit home improvement store that sells donated furniture, appliances and building materials. Increased competition for donated items and high rent cost have made it difficult for the retail operation to support the mission of building affordable housing here in Loudoun County.

It is important to note that the closing of the ReStore will not impact the housing programs provided by Loudoun Habitat for Humanity. The organization is committed to the mission of providing affordable housing programs in Loudoun County. Administrative offices will continue to be located at 700 Fieldstone Drive in Leesburg.

“This was a difficult decision for the organization, as the ReStore is a great program supported by our community,” said Loudoun Habitat for Humanity CEO Therese Cashen. “We only made the decision after looking at all possible options to keep the store running. In the end, store sales are not enough to overcome the increasingly high costs of keeping the store open.”

The last day to shop in the ReStore is Saturday, Feb. 24, before the doors close to the public.

“We sincerely thank our ReStore employees, volunteers, individual and corporate donors and shoppers for their dedication and commitment to serving the ReStore and the Habitat mission,” said Cashen. “Loudoun Habitat will continue its work to serve Loudoun County by building a community where everyone has a place to call home.”

Habitat for Humanity Restore is not ruling out the possibility of resuming ReStore operations in the future. For the next year, they will be focusing their efforts on construction of new homes and acquiring properties to rehab, creating opportunities for future Habitat homeowners and affordable housing in Loudoun County.
