Willard Middle School 6th Grader Receives Visit from FBI
Jatin Bashmaulla, a 6th-grade student at Willard Middle School, did not expect the response he received from the FBI when he wrote a letter to Director Christopher Wray. Jatin was tasked with writing a business-style letter for his English class. Jatin chose to write to FBI Director Wray and thank him for the service and protection the Bureau provides to the country.
Jatin thought he might get a letter back, but instead, the Director dispatched Special Agent in Charge Kevin Vorndran of the Washington Field Office and more than a dozen other agents and personnel to speak to Jatin and his classmates about what the FBI does. The agents came with specialized equipment and vehicles that students and staff were able to interact with and ask questions about.
“I chose the FBI because I think it’s important how they catch all the bad guys,” Jatin said. “But I was really surprised when I saw all the people and trucks in the parking lot.” In addition to speaking with students, SAC Vorndran presented Jatin with a letter signed by Director Wray and two challenge coins.
In his response to Jatin, Director Wray offered some sound advice. “Your words were inspiring, and I would like to return the favor by sharing some advice with you. I want to encourage you to volunteer whenever possible, work hard, and pursue your interests relentlessly. If you can do that while also being kind to others, you have the power to make our country a better, safer place to live.” Director Wray wrote.
