Loudoun Board moves electoral district plan forward

The Loudoun County Board of Supervisors is moving closer to finalizing a new electoral district plan that will reshape the county’s eight existing districts. The Board voted on March 15, to forward the LT-Revised 1 Plan to the May 11 public hearing.

The LT-Revised 1 Plan includes refinements that primarily focus on the goal of keeping communities of interest together while balancing the requirement to distribute the population equally in the eight districts based on the 2020 Census. The LT-Revised 1 Plan includes the following:

• Locates all of Ashburn Farm in one election district
• Locates all of Ashburn Village in one election district
• Locates all of Birchwood at Brambleton in one election district
• Locates all of Broadlands in one election district
• Moves the St. Louis Precinct from District 8 to District 7
• Moves The Regency from District 2 to District 4
• Moves the rural and transition policy areas southwest of Leesburg from District 6 to District 8

The Board directed staff to analyze the LT-Revised 1 Plan, which will be discussed during the April 5 Board of Supervisors meeting. If any issues are identified that would prevent this plan from being implemented, the Board voted on March 15 to revert to the previously considered Letourneau-Turner Refined Plan as a “backup” plan.

The Board also agreed at the March 15 meeting to retain the majority of the current district names, including Algonkian, Ashburn, Broad Run, Dulles, Leesburg, and Sterling. The Board also voted to advance the name Catoctin for consideration for District 8, and to advance Blue Ridge, Evergreen and Little River for consideration for District 7.

Members of the public may provide input on the proposal to the Board of Supervisors during the April 5 business meeting or at the May 11 public hearing. The Board could take action to adopt the final redistricting plan as early as May 11.

Loudoun residents are encouraged to provide input to this process through these channels:
