Loudoun launches bicycle exchange program

Loudoun County is launching a bicycle exchange program, which will provide a place for Loudoun residents to drop off used bicycles in good working condition and a place for people to pick up a used bicycle at no cost.

Residents may drop off unwanted bicycles next to the free compost and mulch pickup area located just inside the entrance to the Loudoun County landfill. The area will also serve as the place where residents may pick up a used bicycle in as-is condition for free on a first-come, first-served basis.

Only pedal-powered bicycles in good working condition will be accepted. Bicycle parts or accessories, e-bikes, motorized bicycles, scooters, tricycles, wagons or plastic toys will not be accepted. Loudoun County will not certify that the bicycles are in good working condition and anyone who takes a bicycle will voluntarily assume any risk associated with it.

The program is being launched as a pilot project to determine the extent of public interest in a bicycle
exchange program.

The Loudoun County landfill is located at 21101 Evergreen Mills Road and is open Monday-Saturday,
8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Details about the program are online at loudoun.gov/BicycleExchange. More information about county’s recycling services may be found at loudoun.gov/recycle.
