Pickleball courts come to Loudoun

By Audrey Carpenter

Four pickleball courts are scheduled to open at the Village at Leesburg in January 2024. Village Pickle went live with its website Sunday evening to inform the public.

The U.S. Tennis Association Mid-Atlantic Foundation, headquartered in Herndon, will open the indoor pickleball venue at the Village at Leesburg with two storefronts of nearly 24,000 square feet at the Wegmans retail center. Another four courts will be added in July 2024, according to the company’s website.

The popularity of pickleball and the lack of an appropriate venue in the county drove the foundation to open the pickleball courts. It will be the first indoor facility specifically dedicated to pickleball in the county. The hours will be 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week, with food and beverage provided by The Dell Food & Brew Hall, another Village at Leesburg tenant.

The first four courts will be located in Suite C-115, which was formerly Charming Charlies.

Both members and guests will be able to enjoy Village Pickle, with total memberships being capped to heighten the members’ playing experience and increase court access. The venue is expected to host lessons, clinics, round robins and leagues. Pickleball is a combination of tennis, badminton and table tennis, and is the fastest-growing sport in the U.S., according to the Association of Pickleball Players.

The monthly membership fee is $125/month. For a limited time, Village Pickle is offering a special founding membership package. The first 200 members who commit to an annual membership will receive a free t-shirt upon a visit to the facility, a waived initiation fee, and a special discount of $99 per month for the first six months.

Mike Myers will be the general manager of Village Pickle. Myers has developed, owned, and operated multiple successful fitness clubs in the DMV over the past 30 years. Mike was an avid tennis player and now thoroughly enjoys playing pickleball, both competitive and recreational, according to the company website.
