HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra visits the ADAMS Sully Center

On Tuesday, Sept. 5, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra visited the ADAMS (All Dulles Area Muslim Society Center) Sully Center/ADAMS Compassionate Health Care Network Clinic, in Chantilly, to highlight the Biden-Harris Administration’s efforts to lower prescription drug costs through implementation of the new lower cost prescription drug law (the Inflation Reduction Act).

Upon arrival Secretary Becerra toured the ADAMS Sully Center/ADAMS Compassionate Health Care Network Clinic, and then participated in a panel discussion which focused on the Administration’s efforts to lower prescription drug costs.

The ADAMS Sully Center/ADAMS Compassionate Health Care Network Clinic serves the greater Muslim community in Northern Virginia by providing health care and social services, community programing, and faith-based services.

Secretary Becerra highlighted the benefits of the new lower cost prescription drug law, one of the most consequential health care laws since the Affordable Care Act. The new lower cost prescription drug law, results in a month’s supply of each Medicare-covered insulin being capped at $35, and recommended, preventive vaccines are now free for people with Medicare prescription drug coverage.

For the first time, the law allows Medicare to negotiate better prices for prescription drugs covered under Medicare Part D – strengthening the program’s ability to serve people with Medicare now and in the future.

On Tuesday, August 29, 2023, HHS announced the first 10 drugs for negotiation. The selected drug list for the first round of negotiation is:

  • Eliquis
  • Jardiance
  • Xarelto
  • Januvia
  • Farxiga
  • Entresto
  • Enbrel
  • Imbruvica
