Woodgrove to host inaugural Battle of the Bands on May 24

Woodgrove High School is hosting their First Annual Battle of the Bands on Saturday, May 24 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Come see musical acts from students across the county competing for a cash prize. The event is open to anyone with tickets and they are also available at the door for $5. Concessions will be sold as well, there is a lunch break at 12 p.m. Also, you can even help with the fan favorite award.

Acts will have up to 15 minutes to play music and perform songs of their choosing and will be judged on many characteristics including their stage presence and musicality. Acts will be competing for a grand prize of $100 for the best soloist and $250 for the best band/ensemble.

Acts will also be competing for a fan favorite award where members of the audience can give money to their favorite act. The act that gets the most money will be able to keep all of the funds that they earn.

This event is being hosted by the Woodgrove Tri-M. Tri-M is a music honor society with chapters across the country with the goal of expanding music and music awareness in their community. Tri-M President Nathan Nocon said, “Our chapter wanted to have an event for members of Tri-M to be able to volunteer at while also being one that is able to promote music within our school and wider community, the goal of Tri-M. After brainstorming event ideas at the beginning of year, we came up with the idea of a Battle of the Bands event! I was very happy that we have 15 acts for our first ever event.”

“We are all very excited for this event and would love for members of our community to come out and support these amazing young musicians!” says Samantha Oakley, Orchestra Director and Tri-M advisor at Woodgrove High School.
