Wexton announces direct relief funding projections for VA-10 Localities and schools in American Rescue Plan
On Feb. 24, Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton (D-VA) released the estimated relief funding for localities and schools in Virginia’s 10th Congressional District through the American Rescue Plan Act. Under the Act’s state and local funding. VA-10 is estimated to receive a total of $473.8 million and the Commonwealth of Virginia is estimated to receive nearly $3.8 billion.
Under the plan’s school relief, the 10th District’s school systems are estimated to receive $333,957,000 with school systems across the commonwealth receiving nearly $2 billion total. Congresswoman Wexton voted for the legislation in the House Budget Committee on Monday, and it is expected to be voted on by the full House of Representatives later this week.
“The American Rescue Plan will deliver urgently needed relief for our local response to the COVID pandemic and allow our schools to expand their reopenings and remain open safely,” said Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton. “For almost a year now, our states and localities have shouldered much of the day-to-day response to COVID, from vaccine distribution and testing to distance learning, even as tax revenues plummeted. This bill gets them the resources they need to continue their efforts while keeping public service employees on the job and avoiding disastrous spending cuts to other critical programs. The education funding will be immediately available to our local school districts, enabling them to take the necessary steps to make classrooms safe and make up for lost learning time.”
The American Rescue Plan would deliver urgent relief to support the public health response to COVID-19, deliver immediate relief to families in need, and support communities struggling with the economic fallout of the pandemic.
