See through the Falsehoods
Dear Editor:
In the last few weeks in the Town of Purcellville elections, the Grewe team who is running a campaign based on statements like “good people, “good governance,” and the sky’s falling in with a claim of 110,000 empty square feet of store fronts in the town – it’s no wonder their campaign is throwing lies and distortions at the Milan team in hopes of something sticking. These tactics are campaigning 101 for dummies.
Purcellville is thriving. Last year there were 98 new business in town and so far this year there have been 83 new businesses. In the past few weeks there have been approximately 10 ribbon cuttings for new businesses. Ace Hardware just opened, and IHOP is planning on opening in the Catoctin Corner shopping center.
The White Palace building at the corner of Main and 21st Street in Historic Downtown, has recently sold to a local family. New restaurants are getting ready to open their doors, along with new companies. It’s exciting.
One of the largest vacancies in town is owned by the developers of Vineyard Square on 21st Street – a project the Grewe team supports.
In fact, one of their largest donors is from the developer of this project, who has donated thousands and thousands of dollars. His large donations help pay for his team’s big fancy expensive lighted signs, which are all over developers’ properties, both in and outside of the town limits.
Follow the money as Milan team member Ron Rise Jr. said in a candidate forum in early October. The Milan team has not received any developer donations, needless to say.
Let’s remember that Grewe voted for the largest annexation in recent memory. His vote was the lone vote for the Warner Brook Annexation which was 120-acres, chock full of all the juicy uses that add to traffic, diminished quality of life in our small town, and increased town costs.
Grewe voted against the Town’s Comprehensive Plan, yet he is running for mayor to represent the citizens of this town.
I support Stan Milan and his team. They have voting records of listening to the residents of this town – who really want to keep Purcellville the small town we all enjoy. They support the Town’s Comprehensive Plan, and are following it in their review of the zoning ordinance.
Yes, I am supporting the Milan team, Ron Rise Jr., Carol Luke and Boo Bennett, who are running on citizens’ issues and not vacuous words, and distortions of their voting records.
