Purcellville police report Oct. 15

10/09/21            2:44 p.m.           200 Block of Frazer Drive                                         Keep the Peace

Police responded for a dispute between an estranged couple over taking a child from one parent, so the other parent could take him to the doctor.  Police mediated a heated dispute between the parents over the care of a child. Events included speaking with the lawyer of one of the parties and taking the child’s temperature. As this was as civil matter and no exigent circumstances existed, the parties were separated and police left as there was no standing for additional action. 

10/09/21            6:28 p.m.           Silcott Springs Road and A Street                          Revoked License and Improper Registration

An officer stopped a vehicle for speeding and determined that the driver’s license had been revoked and that the tags on the car belonged to another vehicle.  The driver was cited for the offenses, the vehicle was towed and the license plates were seized as evidence.

10/09/21            9:28 p.m.           300 Block of Addivon Terrace                                         Suspicious Incident

The complainant arrived home and discovered that the rear deck door was open.   Officers checked the residence and found no one inside.  A thorough search by the owner found that nothing was out of the ordinary or missing.  No activity was captured on neighboring video door cams. 

10/09/21            10:50 p.m.         150 Purcellville Gateway Drive                 Warrant Service

A subject wanted on an outstanding warrant for Failure to Appear in Court was located in the shopping plaza.  She was arrested and transported to the Adult Detention Center for processing. 

10/10/21            9:50 a.m.           100 Block of River Bottom Square              Suspicious Incident                                               

Three teens, 19, 17 and 16 were asleep in a vehicle.  The arriving officer noted the presence of empty cans of White Claw outside of the car, but none inside.  Upon making contact with the occupants, no odor of alcoholic beverage was noted.  The parents of the two juveniles were contacted and responded to pick up their teens.  The parents of one requested that officers give their son a preliminary breath test, which yielded a reading of 000.     

10/10/21            4:19 p.m.           700 Block of E. Main Street                              Drunk in Public

Police responded for a report of a man dancing in the parking lot of the 7-Eleven.  Upon arrival the officer noted the presence of a man who appeared to be hopping around the parking lot.  The man told the officer that he drank one beer and also took pain medicine and antibiotics.  He exhibited behaviors consisted with intoxication and was arrested and transported to the Adult Detention Center where he will be held until sober.

10/11/21 12:45p.m.          600 Block of Dominion Terrace                           Hit and Run

                                                                                              
The victim reported that sometime between noon on 10/7/21 and 8 a.m. on 10/11/21, someone or something had broken her driver’s side mirror on her vehicle.  There was no paint transfer on the mirror and no nearby video cameras. 

10/11/21            6:16 p.m.           200 Block of Misty Pond Terrace                           Domestic Dispute

A third party called, concerned that her daughter was being prevented from leaving her home by her husband.  Officers responded to the residence in question and found that although a couple was having domestic issues, there was no violence and the woman was free to come and go. Officers found that the woman was packing belongings for her and her infant daughter. They both left, prior to police departure.  No additional police intervention was required.

A trail user notified police that a number of stickers were on the back of a stop sign on the W&OD trail.   The responding officer took photos and documented the incident.  The stickers would not come off without a glue remover, so a request was placed with public works to remove them.

10/13/21            3:11 p.m.           1000 E. Main Street                                               Police Information

Police investigated a possible fraud, in which, on Sept. 30, a customer had used a check to pay for a purchase in the amount of $68.20. He checked his bank statement and saw a transaction, noting the same check number, for another Giant purchase, in the amount of $625.00.  The store manager was able to locate receipts for both, showing that the larger purchase was made by another customer, using a completely different account and check number.   The only commonality was the bank.  Armed with this information, the aggrieved customer contacted his bank, who quickly fixed the error and reimbursed his account. 

10/14/21            9:09 p.m.           Harry Byrd Highway                                            DUI

An officer stopped a car for traveling 85 mph in a 55 mph zone.  Upon approach to the vehicle, the officer immediately noted the odor of alcoholic beverage emanating from the driver, who ultimately failed a battery of sobriety tests. He was arrested and transported to the Adult Detention Center, where his Blood Alcohol level was test and registered at .14.
