Purcellville police report 11-6-21

11/06/21          8:38 a.m.         17000 Block of Hilltop Drive                         Found Property

A woman found a wallet in the town historic district and turned it into the Police Department. An officer was able to locate a number for the property owner, who did not realize that his wallet was missing. He responded to the Police Station and collected his property.  

11/06/21          10:20 a.m.       150 Purcellville Gateway                               Trespassing

A man called police while he was at the Purcellville Gateway shopping center to confirm that he had been previously banned by property management and that it applied to the entire location. The responding officer confirmed that it did and gave the subject and his girlfriend copies of the no trespassing paperwork and sent them on their way.

A concerned citizen reported that multiple teens were engaged in a fight in the McDonald’s parking lot but left when the police were called.

Responding officers saw multiple subjects fleeing and eventually located and detained one of the subjects, who was found to be in possession of two empty liquor bottles and multiple vaping devices. He was also in possession of three backpacks that belonged to some of the other subjects involved in this incident.

The subject, who was 20, said that they were engaged in slap fighting, but that there was no malice and no intention to hurt each other. The officer collected the backpacks for safekeeping and turned in the smoking devices as evidence. He left his number and later that evening two of the subjects, both teens arrived, with a parent, to the Police Station, to collect their property. The officer explained what had happened and in both cases, the parents were happy that they had been made aware of the situation.

As of this report, the other parent and teen had not contacted the police.

The complaint parked his vehicle at 5 p.m. on Nov. 7. Upon returning to and starting the vehicle on Nov. 8, he heard a noise that did not sound normal. He took the car to a mechanic who discovered that the catalytic converter had been removed.

The complainant reported that her mother left to drive to a store in Leesburg and had not returned. She reported that her mother generally did not drive at night as she had a tendency to get lost. On a prior occasion, she ended up near the Pennsylvania boarder.

A search commenced in the area with the assistance of many law enforcement agencies. While the search was in progress, the complaint received a call from an unknown number and upon answering, heard the voice of her mother.

She told her daughter that she got lost and ran out of gas in Stafford, Virginia. She had to borrow a phone, as she did not have hers with her. Prior to departing, officers discussed several options with the complainant on how she could help to ensure the safety of her mother and prevent a reoccurrence.

Officers responded with rescue units to a residence for a reported medical emergency. Upon arrival, they utilized an AED, prior to the arrival of medics. Unfortunately, in spite of medical intervention, they were unable to revive the patient.  

11/10/21          8:42 p.m.         745 E. Main Street                                        Multiple Offenses                                           

Police were called to the Purcellville Pub for a report of an intoxicated subject who got into an argument with another customer and left without paying his tab. Staff watched the subject get into a car and drive around the building.

 Officers spotted the car and subject driving in the lot towards them and stopped the vehicle. An obviously intoxicated driver exited the vehicle. He was verbally hostile and then reached out and struck one of the officers in the face.

The subject was placed in handcuffs. He was charged with Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, DUI and Disorderly conduct. Before leaving the original scene, the suspect provided his credit card to the bar staff to settle his tab, as to avoid incurring an additional charge of defrauding an Inn Keeper. It is unknown if he left a tip. He was transported to the adult detention center, where his breath was tested, yielding a result of .23.
