Purcellville Police Announce Sergeant Promotions

PURCELLVILLE, Va., July 18, 2025 — The Purcellville Police Department is pleased to announce the promotions of Officer Michael Dickson and Officer Daniel Hyman to the rank of Sergeant. Both Sergeant Dickson and Sergeant Hyman have been in an Acting Sergeant role since March of 2025.

Sergeant Michael Dickson has been with the Purcellville Police Department since 2017, and has a wealth of both institutional knowledge and critical understanding of our Purcellville community. Sergeant Dickson is the Department’s Firearm’s Instructor and provides invaluable support for our training capabilities. In 2022, Sergeant Dickson was awarded a Unit Citation at the Loudoun Chamber of Commerce Valor Awards for his role in the handling of an incident which resulted in saving the life of a local resident. Additionally, Sergeant Dickson is a regular and popular attendee at our PPD & BetterALife Homework Club, Coffee with a Cop, Kickball with a Cop, Purcellville Public Safety Day, and many of our other community outreach events.

Sergeant Daniel Hyman joined the Purcellville Police Department in January 2025, but has already made a significant and positive impact during his short tenure. Sergeant Hyman brings over 15 years of law enforcement experience, serving as Corporal with the Winchester Police Department, as well as a Conservation Police Officer with the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources. Sergeant Hyman has also spent 18 years in the military, serving both as a pilot and infantry officer.

Please join us in congratulating Sergeant Dickson and Sergeant Hyman on their well-deserved promotions as they assume these leadership roles with honor and integrity!
