Purcellville Officer Holman promoted to rank of Lieutenant

Purcellville Officer W. Michael Holman has been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. After completing a competitive promotional process, Lieutenant Holman was selected as the Department’s Operations Lieutenant. Lieutenant Holman has been in an Acting Lieutenant role since August 2024, fulfilling the Administrative Lieutenant position since it was vacated in July 2024.

Lieutenant Holman joined the Purcellville Police Department in April 2024, bringing with him over 22 years of law enforcement experience. He first became a police officer with the Metropol Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Police Department, where he served for over twelve years. During that time, he held the roles of Sergeant and Detective, became a certified Bicycle Patrol Officer, worked with crash reconstruction, and also internal affairs.

He then served over nine years with Frederick County Sheriff’s Office where he became certified in Underwater Search and Recovery, confined space rescues, and also a UCI (Underwater Criminal Investigator) Diver. Lieutenant Holman was most recently at the Strasburg Police Department for one year before joining Purcellville.

He is a certified Field Training Officer, and is a certified Critical Incident Response Team member, and also recently completed the Virginia Police Chief’s Foundation Professional Executive Leadership School, session 55, in November 2024.

During his time at Purcellville, Lieutenant Holman has fulfilled the roles of training coordinator, recruiter, assisted with VLEPSC accreditation, and is currently the Property & Evidence Manager. As the Operations Commander, he will oversee all aspects of patrol, to include daily operations, officer staffing, special operations/events, and provide support for critical incidents.
