Purcellville Library to hold its Silent Book Auction
The Purcellville Library Advisory Board will be holding its annual Silent Book Auction this year, from June 4 through June 30. Final bids will be taken until 5 pm on June 30. All of the items being auctioned can be viewed in the lobby display case during library hours.
A librarian can pull any item from the display case if you would like a more close-up view of a particular book. The highest bidders will be contacted the first week of July by email. The books, can then be picked up and paid for with cash or personal check at the main library desk. The address is 220 E Main Street in Purcellville.
This year several signed books will be offered in the auction such as Magpie by Anthony Horowitz, Hideaway by Nora Roberts, The Hotel Nantucket by Erin Hilderbrand, The Lioness by Christ Bohjalian, Precious and Grace by Alexander McCll Smith and many others.
Once again there will be quite a few children’s books such as boxed sets of the Shiloh Collection, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, Ladybug Girl, Alice in Wonderland and Hogwarts Classics (2 vol.).
The sale includes a copy of the Treasury of Beatrix Potter. A signed copy of one of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series is being offered, as is a signed copy of The Bourbon Street Band is Back.
Of particular interest this year is a copy of The Illustrated London News – Elizabeth II Coronation – 1953, a 1959 leather-bound copy of The Mysterious Island by Jules Verne, a 1952 version of the Just So Stories by Rudyard Kipling, the Complete TV Series DVDs of the West Wing (all seasons) in a nice box.
Up for auction is a grouped together three new and unopened Blu-ray DVDs of 1, Thor of Ragnarok 2, The Avengers (4 movie collection) and 3, and Captain America 3 movie collection.
The 10 volume Collier’s Junior Classics – The Young Folks Shelf of Books (1918) will be offered, all of which have a lovely color print at the front of each volume.
All proceeds from the Silent Auction go to help fund various Purcellville Library programs such as the successful Summer Reading Program for children, teens and adults, guest author fees, Veteran programs, the Time Travel Club, fine arts and crafts programs and many more.
