PPD to hold Popsicle with a Cop Aug. 8
The Purcellville Police Department will hold a Popsicle with a Cop event on Friday, Aug, 8 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Purcellville Sportsplex located at 310 N 21st Street, Purcellville. This event is held to encourage community members to engage in conversations with police officers in an informal, neutral space to build and grow relationships. Popsicle with a Cop provides the opportunity for officers and citizens to converse and enjoy a favorite summertime treat of popsicles.
Residents are invited to join members of the Purcellville Police Department for free popsicles and some friendly conversation. No agenda and no speeches, just a delicious treat and chatting with your neighborhood officers.
This event is being hosted by the Purcellville Sportsplex, which will also allow community members the chance to engage in some friendly sports competitions with our officers. The Purcellville Sportsplex has three courts to explore, which support multiple sports including tumbling/gymnastics, basketball, pickleball, and visitors can participate in nerf gun battles against the officers (with parent’s permission).
This program originated from the national Coffee with a Cop initiative supported by the United States Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services, which aims to break down barriers between police officers and the citizens they serve. Coffee with a Cop brings law enforcement officers and the community members together over coffee (or popsicles) to discuss issues and learn more about each other. The Purcellville Police Department traditionally hosts Coffee with a Cop events bi-monthly at various times and locations throughout the town of Purcellville.
