Loudoun County Animal Services celebrates World Spay Day

Loudoun County Animal Services is recognizing World Spay Day by offering 50 free spay/neuter surgeries for barn and outdoor cats. Appointments are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

During the appointment, cats will be provided with spay or neuter surgery, basic vaccinations and a microchip. They will also be ear-tipped, which identifies cats that have been sterilized.

“World Spay Day is observed annually on the fourth Tuesday of February and is dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of spay/neuter surgery,” says Dr. Laura Bunke, LCAS veterinarian, “We are excited to offer this service to help reduce the number of kittens born outdoors while supporting community members who own barn and outdoor cats.”

The surgeries will be scheduled throughout February and March at LCAS, 42225 Adoption Drive in Leesburg. They are offered at no cost as a result of the support of Friends of Loudoun County Animal Services.

To qualify for the program, participants and their cats must reside in Loudoun County. Eligible residents are encouraged to take advantage of this limited-time opportunity and sign up at loudoun.gov/OutdoorCatClinic.

In addition to this special event, LCAS routinely offers low-cost spay/neuter clinics for outdoor cats. The clinic schedule is posted at loudoun.gov/AnimalResources.
