Leesburg town residents encouraged to go solar

Leesburg Town residents are invited to take advantage of Solarize Virginia, a program that launched on Monday, April 1 to reduce the cost and complexity of going solar.

Through a community-based outreach initiative managed by Virginia nonprofit Local Energy Alliance Program, homeowners can sign up to receive a free solar satellite assessment and discounted prices from vetted installers. Residents are able to take advantage of this program thanks to the Town’s membership in the Northern Virginia Regional Commission.

LEAP also provides ongoing customer support and education throughout the process to make it as streamlined as possible. Signing up is free and requires no commitment until you sign a contract.

“The Inflation Reduction Act of 2023 increased the tax credits for solar energy improvements from 22% to 30%. The cost of solar panels has continued to decrease. In 2023, the price of solar systems was down 80% since 2000. So, why not go solar now,” said the Town’s Sustainability Manager Deborah Moran. “Residents and business alike can turn their unused roof space as an energy generation tool, keeping green in your wallet, as opposed to spending it on your energy bill.”

Solarize VA has helped 1,301 households install 12MW of solar. Forty-one of those installations have been in the Town.

The no obligation program helps you access your roof for solar, provides a quote, and takes you through the many incentives of being offered as a result of the Inflation Reduction Act. The campaign runs through June 30. To learn more, visit www.solarizeva.org.
