Leesburg Police wear pink in support of cancer charity
The Leesburg Police Department are going PINK this October in support of those who are experiencing or have experienced cancer. While the wearing of pink in October is most recognizable as a breast cancer awareness campaign, we understand there are so many types of cancer that impact both our police family and the community we serve, which is why all funds raised will go to the Inova Loudoun Hospital Cancer Patient Assistance Fund.
During the month of October, members of the Leesburg Police Department, both sworn and civilian, will be permitted to wear pink shirts featuring the pictured “Supporter” logo in support of breast cancer awareness.
Uniformed officers have been authorized to wear a pink supporter T-shirt under their uniform shirt, with the pink shirt exposed along their neckline. Non-uniformed personnel have been authorized to either wear a pink supporter polo shirt or T-shirt, depending on their individual assignment.
LPD staff wishing to participate have purchased the shirts with their own money. The cost of each shirt purchased included a charitable donation to the Inova Loudoun Hospital Cancer Patient Assistance Fund. Some members of the LPD additionally made independent monetary donations to this important local charity.
“We appreciate and are grateful for the Leesburg Police Department and their continued support of Inova Loudoun Hospital. Their commitment to us and our patients exemplifies the true spirit of community partnership. We thank them for being our heroes both on and off duty,” said Susan Carroll, President, Inova Loudoun Hospital.
“LPD is proud to support Breast Cancer Awareness month while raising money that goes directly back to support the community we serve,” advised Leesburg Chief of Police Thea Pirnat. “This is just another example of the caring nature of our public safety members.”
Thanks to the generosity of our sworn and civilian staff, our volunteers, and our friends at Inova in this campaign, we have donated over $600 to the Inova Loudoun Hospital Cancer Patient Assistance Fund. This fund supports the critical needs of cancer patients in Loudoun County, both during and after treatment, including assistance with bills, prescriptions, transportation, housing, and much more.
Additionally, we look forward to once again further supporting the Inova Loudoun Hospital Cancer Patient Assistance Fund during our upcoming annual No-Shave November campaign.
