Leesburg Police make arrest in W&OD trail incident
The Leesburg Police Department has arrested a man for multiple offenses, including driving while intoxicated, drug possession, hit and run, and driving without a license, following an incident on the Washington & Old Dominion Trail.
At approximately 11:29 a.m., on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2024, officers responded to reports of a vehicle driving on the sidewalk of the W&OD Trail in the area of Crosstrail Boulevard SE, almost hitting several pedestrians. The vehicle, a grey Ford Escape, was located a short time later in the unit block of Lawson Street SE, Leesburg.
Further investigation revealed that Luis D. Funez Medina, 18, of Columbia, MD., was operating the vehicle without a valid driver’s license. The suspect was taken into custody and charged with DWI, possession of illegal drugs, hit and run, and driving without a license.
Funez Medina transported to the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center where he is being held pending a bond review. There were no injuries reported.
