Leesburg Police investigating fatal pedestrian crash

The Leesburg Police Department is investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian and a passenger vehicle that occurred late last night.

At approximately 11:35 p.m. on June 12, a Leesburg Police officer came upon a crash scene while on patrol near the intersection of the Leesburg Bypass (Route 15) and Edwards Ferry Road NE. The officer immediately requested emergency assistance after discovering that an adult female pedestrian had been struck by a passenger vehicle.

Despite lifesaving efforts, the pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle involved remained on scene and is cooperating with investigators. The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.

The Leesburg Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Team is leading the investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision.
