Leesburg Police arrest Ashburn man for DWI after striking juvenile

On Thursday, May 15, the Leesburg Police Department arrested an Ashburn man for driving while intoxicated after he struck a juvenile who was riding a scooter in the area of 22 Plaza Street NE.

At approximately 4:30 p.m., a Leesburg Police officer observed a juvenile fall in the roadway in the area of 22 Plaza Street NE. The officer immediately stopped to assist and was informed by witnesses that the juvenile had just been struck by a vehicle. The juvenile sustained minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment.

The driver of the vehicle, Victor Canchola, age 63, of Ashburn, remained on scene and was detained by officers. During the investigation, it was determined that Canchola was under the influence of alcohol. He was placed under arrest for DWI.

Shortly after the arrest, Canchola experienced a medical emergency and was transported to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment. Canchola has been charged with driving while intoxicated and driving on a suspended license.
